The World Bank publishes the World Development Indicators, its collection of cross-country development statistics, and the Poverty and Inequality Platform, its poverty and inequality estimates from household surveys. Croma keeps every WDI value for the 42 economies of Latin America and the Caribbean since 1960, about 1.3 million values over some 1,500 indicators, and every poverty and inequality estimate the platform publishes, and brings them up to date monthly after each World Bank release. Find an indicator first, by words or by topic, then read its values by country and year. The poverty endpoint answers the share of people below the international poverty lines, the Gini index and the welfare distribution, with the survey behind each figure.
Values cover the 42 economies of Latin America and the Caribbean as the World Bank groups them, from 1960. The poverty estimates cover every country the World Bank reports on. Figures can differ from national statistics offices and from other international sources, because the welfare measures and adjustments differ: cite the World Bank next to every figure.
The whole source, organized and ready to query: every endpoint on this page answers in milliseconds. Every response carries as_of: how current the data is. How datasets work.

Search indicators

POST /global/world-bank/indicators-search/v1 Dataset Find the code of the indicator you need, by words or by topic.
Returns as_of (how current the data is), the applied filters, total and total_is_exact, page, per_page, total_pages, count and results[], by code. Every indicator carries indicator_code (what the values endpoint takes), indicator (its name), unit (as the name states it, e.g. % of GDP; null when it states none), topics[], source_note (the World Bank’s definition) and source_organization (who produces the data).

Indicator values

POST /global/world-bank/indicator-values/v1 Dataset Values by indicator, country and year. Leave country_code empty to compare every economy in the region.
Returns as_of, the applied filters, indicator, total and total_is_exact, page, per_page, total_pages, count and results[]. Every value carries id (country, indicator and year), country_code (ISO 3166-1, three letters), country, indicator_code, indicator, unit, year, value, decimals (how many the World Bank shows) and obs_status (the World Bank’s flag for an estimate, when it sets one). Years without a value are not listed. Ordered by indicator, country and year, newest first. With indicator_code, indicator carries its definition.

Poverty and inequality

POST /global/world-bank/poverty/v1 Dataset One row per country, year, coverage and welfare measure. Compare years only within one comparable_spell.
Returns as_of, the applied filters, total and total_is_exact, page, per_page, total_pages, count and results[]. Every estimate carries id (country, year, coverage and welfare measure), country_code, country, region_code, year, survey_year, survey_acronym, survey_coverage, reporting_level, welfare_type, comparable_spell (compare years only within one), headcount_300, headcount_420 and headcount_830 (the share of people below 3.00,3.00, 4.20 and $8.30 a day, 2021 PPP, from 0 to 1), poverty_gap_300, poverty_gap_420, poverty_gap_830, gini (0 to 1), mean and median (2021 PPP dollars a day per person), mld, polarization, deciles[] (each tenth’s share of welfare, poorest first), societal_poverty_line, population, is_interpolated, estimation_type and distribution_type. Ordered by country and year, newest first. Source: World Bank, World Development Indicators and Poverty and Inequality Platform, under CC BY 4.0.
