# Banco de la República: research and reports

> Every publication of Colombia's central bank, about 5,700: the Borradores de Economía working papers, regional economics studies, the monetary policy and financial stability reports, the board's reports to Congress and the regional bulletins, with abstracts, JEL codes, departments, full text and a copy of every file.

The Banco de la República, Colombia's central bank, publishes its research and its reports in an institutional repository: about 1,400 Borradores de Economía working papers since 1994, about 350 working papers on regional and urban economics from its Centro de Estudios Económicos Regionales, Ensayos sobre Política Económica since 1982, the quarterly Informe de Política Monetaria (formerly Informe sobre Inflación), the Reporte de Estabilidad Financiera, the Junta Directiva's reports to Congress, the regional economic bulletins and the ICER reports for each region, the labour market, credit and financial markets reports, and books.

Each publication comes with its authors, date, series and number, Spanish and English abstracts, keywords, JEL codes, the Colombian departments it covers (every regional bulletin carries them), DOI and RePEc ids, the text of its main document, and a byte-identical copy of every file published with it: the PDF, its English version, summaries, boxes, annexes, data files and charts.

Search by words (the full text included), series, author, JEL code, department or date, then read one publication's text by its handle. The Banco de la República publishes these works under a Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence.

<Note>
  The whole source, organized and ready to query: every endpoint on this page answers in milliseconds. Every response carries `as_of`: how current the data is. [How datasets work](/datasets).
</Note>

## Search the publications

`POST /co/banrep-research/publications-search/v1` <a className="dataset-pill" href="/datasets">Dataset</a>

One search over every publication, by words, series, author, JEL code, department or date.

| Field | Type | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| `query` | string | Optional words matched against the title, abstracts, summary, keywords, subjects, authors and full text, e.g. `remesas`, `inflación de alimentos` or `pobreza Chocó`. |
| `series` | enum | Optional series, e.g. `borradores`, `regional_working_papers`, `monetary_policy_report`, `financial_stability_report`, `board_report_to_congress` or `regional_bulletin`. |
| `author` | string | Optional author surname, with or without accents, e.g. `Ayala` or `Ayala-García`. |
| `jel_code` | string | Optional JEL code or its prefix: `E52`, `E5` or `R`. |
| `region` | string | Optional Colombian department, e.g. `Chocó` or `La Guajira`. The regional bulletins and ICER reports carry it. |
| `from_date` | string | Optional: only publications on or after this date, `yyyy-mm-dd`. |
| `to_date` | string | Optional: only publications on or before this date, `yyyy-mm-dd`. |
| `page` | integer | 1-based page number. Default `1`. |
| `per_page` | integer | Results per page (1-50). Default `10`. |

```bash theme={"dark"}
curl https://api.croma.run/co/banrep-research/publications-search/v1 \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CROMA_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "query": "remesas", "series": "regional_working_papers" }'
```

Returns `as_of` (how current the data is), the applied filters, `total` and `total_is_exact`, `page`, `per_page`, `total_pages`, `count` and `results[]`, best match first (most recent first without a query). Every result carries `id` (the handle, e.g. `11430`), `handle_url`, `series` (e.g. `borradores` or `regional_bulletin`), `collection`, `series_title`, `number` (e.g. `Borrador 1371`), `title` and `title_alternative` (the title in the other language), `authors` and `corporate_authors`, `date` (at the precision published: `yyyy`, `yyyy-mm` or `yyyy-mm-dd`), `published_on` and `year`, `language`, `type`, `abstract` (Spanish), `abstract_en` and `abstract_en_truncated`, `summary` (the longer non-technical summary of newer working papers), `keywords` and `keywords_en`, `jel_codes` (each `code` and `label`), `subjects`, `topic`, `regions` (the departments a regional publication covers), `branch`, `doi`, `repec_id`, `pages`, `license`, `portal_url`, `document_url` (Croma's copy of the main document, byte for byte as the Banco de la República published it), `source_document_url`, `documents[]` (every file published with it: English versions, summaries, boxes, annexes, data files and charts, each with `name`, `description`, `content_type`, `bytes`, `md5`, `document_url` and `source_document_url`), `text_status` (`ok`, `truncated` or `missing`), `text_length` and `source_updated_at`.

<Note>
  Search results leave out the text; `query` still matches it. Read the text with the Banco de la República Publication endpoint.
</Note>

## One publication, with its text

`POST /co/banrep-research/publication/v1` <a className="dataset-pill" href="/datasets">Dataset</a>

A publication by its handle, with the text of its main document.

| Field | Type | Notes |
| - | - | - |
| `handle` | string | **Required.** The publication's handle, the `id` of a search result (e.g. `11430`), or its `handle_url`. |
| `offset` | integer | First character of the text to return. Pass the previous response's `next_offset` to read on. Default `0`. |
| `limit` | integer | How many characters of the text to return. Default `200000`. |

```bash theme={"dark"}
curl https://api.croma.run/co/banrep-research/publication/v1 \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CROMA_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "handle": "11449" }'
```

Returns `as_of`, `found`, `handle` and `publication`, which carries everything the search returns plus `content`: a window onto the main document's text, with `text`, `offset`, `total_length`, `has_more` and `next_offset`.

<Note>
  Croma keeps up to 200,000 characters of a document's text; a longer one says `text_status: truncated`, and `document_url` gives the whole document. `content` is null when `text_status` is `missing`.
</Note>

<Note>
  A handle the repository holds no publication under returns `found: false` with HTTP 200, not an error.
